I started my business…
A little over 10 years ago

This is how it came to be…
I had been photographing babies and families for a while. Because of those family connections, I started to be referred for weddings. Turned out I loved them, was good at them and that part of my business took off! That was over 10 years ago and many of those couples have now come back after the wedding to have me photograph their growing families. I love how life comes full circle.

A little bit about my background…
Both my dad and grandfather were professional photographers and another grandparent dabbled in filmmaking.  I guess it’s just in my blood and something I’ve always been surrounded with. I’ve always been a photographer — my mind just thinks in pictures. I’ve had professional training as well, but I do think a photographer either has an eye for composition and the timing to capture the perfect slices of life, or they don’t.

I find inspiration…
Pretty much everywhere, but especially from beautiful, perfect light.  Dramatic, soft or even created, to me the quality of light will determine the success of the image. Finding amazing light inspires me to find something amazing to photograph in it (people, landscapes, details) to do it justice.

The perfect wedding day signature cocktail…
Is one that can be made and served quickly.  Don’t keep your guests in a line forever with overly complicated cocktails.  My favorite cocktails at weddings are usually variants on the mimosa because champagne glasses are much prettier to photograph in my opinion.

My design philosophy…
I love negative space and the use of leading lines.  I suppose I spent too much time as a graphic designer.

My favorite wedding color palette combination is…
Pretty much anything but blue and yellow. Growing up in San Diego, blue & yellow remind me of the Chargers. Other than that, it’s fun to see the lovely combinations people come up with.

One or two words to describe my style…
Modern and elegant. I love images to have a modern flair, but at the same time are not considered trendy or “dated” looking in just a few short years time.

I love weddings because…
I love photographing people. I love the interactions between family and friends that create innumerable moments for me to capture. Split seconds in time where we see their true personalities (vs. their photo faces) shine through. There are rarely other occasions in our lives that bring this many important people together on a happy occasion.

My best advice to couples for the big day…
The more stressed and worried about details being perfect on the wedding day you are, the more that stress will show on your faces in the photos. Do everything you can to finalize everything and delegate work. Then show up as a guest at your own wedding and see what happens. Enjoy it and roll with it. No matter what happens you will be married at the end of the day and have a great story to tell.

My favorite reality TV show is…
House Hunters International

The three items I would have on a deserted island are…
– A never ending supply of fresh brewed (good) coffee
– My husband
– A sailboat

My favorite restaurant of all time is…
A little hole-in-the-wall fish place my husband and I discovered in Venice. This place not only had great, unpretentious food but a live gypsy jazz band the whole night. It was magical to spend the evening at the large community tables and get to know everyone.

My biggest pet peeve is…
People who drive slow in the left lanes while talking on their phones.

My favorite holiday is…
Thanksgiving — fun, friends, family, great food and no gifts to buy.

The tastiest food (or drink) indulgence is…
The perfect cappuccino with a perfect croissant. Not so easy to find in San Diego.

Three words to describe my dream wedding…
Elope – Amsterdam – Love

My favorite staycation spot is…
My own house! I can walk to the beach. Otherwise we like Estancia La Jolla a lot or diving down to Valle Guadalupe to go wine tasting and relax.

I believe….
In printing photos and not leaving them on a computer.

My favorite thing on my desk is…
Usually my coffee in the morning.

Something most people don’t know about me…
I’m actually quite shy. You might not guess when I’m meeting wedding couples or photographing their wedding, but yes, its true.

While visiting from Japan, Asumi met the man of her dreams at Torrey Pines Golf Course. Naturally Jason followed her back to her native land and they married. She always wished for a white dress wedding, so the couple returned to the very spot they fell in love for a special fashion photo session.

Ceremony Magazine San Diego 2015 | Dreaming the Dress

Dreaming the Dress
By Jennifer J. Petrini

You may have dreamed of your wedding dress as a little girl, imagining layers upon layers of tulle, a cathedral-length train, and tons of sparkle. But for Brittany Arriola, that fantasy is just part of her job.

As a bridal consultant at The White Flower Bridal Boutique, Brittany is surrounded by gorgeous gowns all day long and knows the ins and outs of all the designer collections. But with a background in fashion from The Art Institute of Tucson and a gift for creating the most stylish illustrations, it was only a matter of time before her own designs made a very special appearance.

Now available EXCLUSIVELY at The White Flower Bridal Boutique is not one but two original dress samples by the salon’s very own in-house designer.

“It really is a dream,” gushes Brittany, as she twirls around in one of her creations, a perfectly pink “KAELAE” ballgown, named after her sister and manufactured by Martina Liana.

Owner Courtney Cole-Arlidge believed in Brittany’s talent and saw the opportunity to partner with two of their coveted designer collections featured in the store. A marriage was made between The White Flower and Martina Liana in the whimsically frilly pink dress, and again with Augusta Jones who manufactured Britt’s lace long-sleeved “VIVIAN” gown.

“I wanted to honor their existing lines with a design that fit into the existing collections,” says Brittany, “but still put my own spin on it.”

Ceremony was thrilled to be the first to shoot these incredibly gorgeous gowns in our “Enchanted” fashion editorial, as seen in Ceremony Magazine San Diego 2015!

The White Floral Bridal Boutique is located at 2525 5th Avenue in San Diego, CA. Call 619.501.1700 to book your private appointment and visit thewhiteflower.com
