LOVE STORY Chris and Jessica’s wedding celebrated classic Southern California beaches, local craft beers and their close circle of loved ones, in a summer ceremony in San Clemente, California. Jessica’s father passed away just a couple of weeks before the wedding, so it was important for her to honor his memory, wearing a pair of diamond earrings he had given her mother and walking down the aisle with a pendant with his photo on her bouquet.
“It felt so special to have all of our closest friends and family in one place there to celebrate with us and lift us up at a very difficult time for our families after losing my dad,” Jessica says. Among their favorite memories were their first look, taking photos at the beach after sunset, Jessica’s mom’s toast and exchanging letters with the couple’s personal vows before the service. Also, because Chris and Jessica are very devoted to their alma maters, UC Berkeley and UCLA, they had signature cocktails named for the Campanile clock tower and the Rose Bowl, icons associated with their universities. Other favorite details were Jessica’s great grandmother’s wedding band and a modern take on the wedding party: Jessica’s brother and best friend as bridesmen and Chris’ sisters as groomsmaids.
While the loss of Jessica’s father made their wedding different from others, her advice to couples planning their weddings still holds water: “Remember to spend time with family and friends to celebrate and cherish every moment. The details matter, but when times get stressful, remind yourself that you’re marrying the love of your life.”
