NEWPORT BEACH, CA On May 30, 2015, Blake told Kathryn he had a surprise planned for their 2 year dating anniversary. They drove to Del Mar, CA, where Blake informed Kathryn they would be watching the sunset from a hot air balloon. Kathryn was thrilled! She had mentioned how much she wanted to ride in a hot air balloon just a few weeks before. As they waited for their balloon to take flight, the sky began to darken and the wind picked up. The balloon company told them they had to wait to see what the weather was going to do before they could fly. After waiting about 45 minutes, they were informed of the bad news: the weather was too dangerous to fly.
Blake was VERY upset and Kathryn didn’t understand why! They decided to grab a drink at their hotel near the beach. Afterward, Blake suggested they take a walk near the ocean. Kathryn happily obliged. On their walk, they found a private bench with a beautiful view of the ocean. They sat, admiring the sunset. As the sun set, Blake got down on one knee and asked Kathryn to marry him. Kathryn burst into tears and said YES! They received a standing ovation from beach goers, and although Blake is still upset about how the proposal turned out, Kathryn loves their “failed” proposal story!
